Wee-kly Picks

Happy Friday! Here are a few things that caught our eye this week. Hope you enjoy.

Everyone needs a raccoon pillow. And it would look especially cute in this kid's room.

Too soon for wintry crafts? No? Then check out these little clay snowmen.

These balancing blocks are perfect for an artsy little builder.

If you're hitting the road for Thanksgiving, bring along our (free) Wee Road Trip Bingo for a fun (and peaceful) trip. And if you're looking for something special to bring to grandma, kids will love making a Thanks Book.

Wee Road Trip Bingo

Gearing up for holiday travel with kids? To help bring more laughter and learning (less hair-pulling) to family trips, we created Wee Road Trip Bingo, free from the Wee Workshop.

We'll definitely be bingo'ing with our preschoolers on the drive to Palm Springs for Thanksgiving, and of course the iPad is loaded with the Wee Alphas and Wee You-Things apps.

If hitting the open road is included in your family's holiday plans, download and print a few copies of Wee Road Trip Bingo, and read our other tips for making long drives with kids more fun.

Happy holidays!

What Wee Read

Inside, Outside by Lizi Boyd

Beautiful illustrations take you through the changing seasons with a little boy, by peeking through a window to see what's going on outside–and then peeking back in. We admittedly often avoid wordless books; sometimes, bedtime is tough enough to come up with stories on our own. But this one is a wonderful exception. There are so many details and surprises, the story unfolds easily, and our kids love adding their own commentary and questions–again and again.

Spotted! Wee Society prints in art.com pop-up

Art.com is bringing some of its art offline in its first-ever pop-up retail space in San Francisco's Union Square through January 15, 2014. We were thrilled to spot a few of the over 130 Wee Society designs available on art.com hanging in this unique space, which also features artist events, interactive exhibits and an inspirational Design Bar.

Wee-kly Picks

Does it feel like fall where you live? It's a chilly day in San Francisco, so we've rounded up some of our favorite cooler-weather-inspired picks.

Indoor play doesn't have to be deafeningly loud. Check out these simple and beautiful drums made of cork.

Bring the outside in with a pretty awesome indoor climbing tree.

Another leaf craft? Yep. This one is worth a click.

Big appetites: an amazingly imaginative photo series by Christopher Boffoli. And this

Aaaaa-choo! A cautionary tale for flu season.

Overheard: Wee Society Branding Honored by AIGA

AIGA's 2013 Justified competition honors case studies that best demonstrate the value of design. We were pretty excited that Wee Society branding, created by Office, was one of the 14 chosen, and even more thrilled when we read what some of the jurors had to say about it.

These made us blush:

"Wee Society sets the bar for a vital, desirable and engaging user experience for children and parents alike ... full of imagination and delight. This is a winner, from the entrepreneurial spirit that drove the concept to its meticulous and business-savvy execution." -Valerie Casey, founder and chief executive officer, Necessary Projects

"The branding and illustration are beautiful ... I'll definitely frequent their site for all of my baby shower needs in the near future." -Jessica Hische, letterer and procrastiworker, Title Case

"I don't have children, but if I did, I'd want them to be Wee Society kids in hopes that they'd learn attention to detail and develop a sense of design savvy during play." -Josh Rubin, founder and editor in chief, Cool Hunting

"These entrepreneurial design minds invented a wonderful universe, then crafted magical portals into it through a website, apps, posters and products." -Brad Johnson, VP, executive creative director, Second Story (now part of SapientNitro)

"Inspirational. A well-thought-out plan on product development fuses with a nice balance of formal and informal design research and marketing strategies." -Clement Mok, design and business consultant, The Design Office of Clement Mok

"It is so refreshing to see good design in this consumer category, which historically has been uninspired. This sets the bar high." -Alina Wheeler, author, Designing and Brand Identity

Making a Thanks Book

We've been looking for creative ways to keep our kids engaged – and out of the way – while preparing the big Thanksgiving feast. From the Wee Workshop, here's an activity that's meaningful and ties right into the day.

Felicity Floo Visits the Zoo by E.S. Redmond

Our pick for flu season is a cautionary tale. "It started one day with a trip to the zoo, when a pale, sniffly girl named Felicity Floo wiped her red, runny nose without a tissue." In her trail (of icky green goo), she leaves all of the animals feeling sick. In our house, the story leads to laughs and dramatic sneezes-into-elbows. Aaaaa-choo!
